The two of us…

The two of us

Salt in the lens, sand in the shoes

We're two surfers who film everything. We shoot photos and make films inside India's small but seriously growing surf scene, and we're building the tools the scene never had.

A

Ankit Kotian

Cinematographer and photographer

Adventure, surf and travel is Ankit's whole world. Moody grades, a story first eye, a magazine feature and a festival pick (Dragon's Lair) already on the wall. He runs the moving image, the colour, and roughly ninety percent of the 5am wake up calls.

Vaibhav Gupta

Photographer and filmmaker

Vaibhav lives for the still frame and the water shot. Patient in the lineup, lightning on the trigger. He splits his time between stills, second camera and shaping the edit into something that actually breathes.

How it started

Our story

two guys, a couple of boards, and way too much coastline

It started the way most good things do. Badly, and at 5am.

We were two friends who couldn't stop chasing waves up and down the Indian coast, dragging cameras into the water because the sessions felt too good to keep to ourselves. Somewhere between a blown out dawn at Mulki and a perfect sneaky set nobody else saw, we realised something annoying: India has thousands of kilometres of coastline, a surf scene full of the friendliest people alive, and almost nobody outside knows any of it exists.

That felt wrong. So we did the only thing we know how to do. We started pointing the lens at it.

Surfers of India is our love letter to that scene. The fishermen who surf better than all of us. The kids learning to pop up on borrowed boards. The tiny break down a dirt road that goes off maybe four days a year. We film it, we photograph it, we map it, and we hand it to the world with a big grin, because this coast deserves the spotlight and honestly it's about time it got one.

The goal is stupidly simple. Make surfing in India easier to find, more fun to be part of, and impossible to ignore. Bring the community closer together and let everyone else in on the secret.

We're surfers first. This whole thing is just us sharing the stoke. Come find us in the water.
